Carpatica ringing station is located in Myscowa (49°32'N,21°34'E) in
the centre of the Beskid Niski Mountains (SE Poland). This localisation enable
studying autumn bird?s migration along the not well-studied south-eastern
migration route. The Carpatica research programm at this place has started in
1998.
Carpatica station works only in autumn from beginning of August to the end of
October. Nets were located each year at the same places. The field station is in
the valley of the Wisłoka River. The study area is covered by such vegetation as
Salix spp. Prunus spinosa, Pinus silvestris, Corylus avellana, Cornus sanguinea,
Malus silvestris, Alnus incana or Euonymus europaea. Birds were ringed and
measured according SEEN standard (wing-, tail-length, wing formula, fat
determination). Some nocturnal migrants were tested for directional preferences
in Busse?s cage.
The total number of ringed birds in period 1998-2006 was 33 976 of 94
species. The highest number of birds was ringed in 2001 (5 712).
The most numerous species in 1998-2006 were:
- Robin (Erithacus rubecula) - 6 376
- Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita) - 5 901
- Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) - 3 949
- Blue Tit (Parus caeruleus) - 2 819
- Great Tit (Parus major) - 1 710
- Willow Warbler (Phylloscopus trochilus) - 1 273
In total, nine recoveries of birds ringed outside Carpatica station was gathered.
The number of birds ringed at Carpatica and recovered elsewhere was 15.
The total number of ringed individuals in 2006 was 4 109 of 65 species
- it?s an average result in comparision to the other seasons.
In a year 2006 the most numerous species were: Robin (Erithacus rubecula) ?
- 1 099, Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita) ? 604 and Blackcap (Sylvia
atricapilla) with total number of caught birds ? 502.

(Accipiter gentilis) were caught. We ringed also for the second time the Tawny
Owl (Strix aluco).
In total, nine foreign ringing recoveries were caught at the station.
The number of own ringing recoveries were 15.
